A House of Dynamite found itself at the center of controversy when it was revealed that the Pentagon criticized several of the film’s assertions. The memo claims that results from real-world testing tell a “vastly different story.”

The film also assigns a hefty price tag of $50 billion to the system, raising the question of how something so expensive can have such a high potential for failure. “The cost is high but not nearly as high as the cost of allowing a nuclear missile to strike our nation,” the memo says. It adds that today’s missile interceptors “have displayed a 100% accuracy rate in testing for more than a decade,” a claim that experts in the field dispute.
