The hunt for The Hunt for Ben Solo is continuing apace following the latest stunt by those fighting to bring the movie to life. In the latest act of fan defiance against Disney’s decision to scrap The Hunt for Ben Solo, a new banner was flown directly over Disney’s Burbank headquarters just hours after the company’s shareholders call, and Collider’s Meredith Loftus was at the scene to report. The message was impossible to miss:

“SHAREHOLDERS WANT THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO”

It’s the boldest move yet in a fan-led campaign that’s been steadily gaining traction since Star Wars actor Adam Driver confirmed the existence — and subsequent cancellation — of the project. The film, co-developed by Driver and Steven Soderbergh, would have explored Ben Solo’s survival and search for atonement after The Rise of Skywalker. Frequent Soderbergh collaborator Scott Z. Burns had reportedly been hired to write the script before Disney executives vetoed it, despite enthusiasm from Kathleen Kennedy, Cary Beck, and Dave Filoni.

“We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, and they said no,” Driver told AP last month. “They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.”

How are Fans Trying to Save Ben Solo?

Fans, however, saw it differently. The grassroots movement behind The Hunt for Ben Solo began shortly after Driver’s interview, quickly spreading across social media under the themes of “hope, redemption, and accountability.” Their activism has been anything but subtle, and they haven’t been limited to just campaigning for the film. They have been using the momentum to simultaneously raise funds for the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, too.

Late last month, a plane flew over Disney’s California lot with a banner reading “SAVE THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO,” while a massive digital billboard lit up Times Square with the same demand. Last week, fans gathered outside Disney’s New York headquarters, holding signs calling for the film to be made. Fan organizer Lauren, who helped coordinate the New York rally, told Collider:

“Ultimately, the legacy of Star Wars has always been hope, and today we carried that hope. Death robs redemption of accountability. Bring back Ben Solo. For the Skywalkers. For the Sequels. For Star Wars.

And just days before the shareholders call, a viral solo protest brought the movement even more visibility. A Star Wars cosplayer dressed as Rey stood outside Walt Disney Studios in full costume, holding a handmade sign that read “WHERE’S BEN SOLO?” And they’re not alone in that sentiment. During a Q&A for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson offered his own show of support, telling Collider’s Steve Weintraub:

“Take my money! I only know what I read about it online. I didn’t know anything about it, but who knows how things are developed these days? But man, I will watch Driver in anything, but I would love to see him play that character again.”

Stay tuned to Collider for more on the hunt to save Ben Solo.
